Mary Ann Nilsson attended the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens, New York. She received her M.A. in Music-College Teaching from the University of New York and M.M. degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Meredith College, Raleigh, North Carolina. Currently she is teaching as a music adjunct instructor at two colleges.
She has earned awards for Excellence in Teaching at two colleges and was one of 11 pianists selected to perform in the Teachers' Division at the Van Cliburn Piano Institute at Fort Worth, Texas.
Mary Ann Nilsson is a faculty appointed member of Pi Kappa Lambda: the National Music Honor Society and is included in Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in Education. She has performed extensively in North Carolina, upstate New York, Massachusetts and New York City.
Mary Ann Nilsson was awarded the Kosempa Scholarship, which is given to independent music teachers who are members of Durham Teachers Music Association. She developed and performed a program on the music of "Women Classical Composers".
